Daniel J. Sullenbarger is vice president of Corporate Compliance and Ethics at Marathon Oil Corporation. He joined Marathon in 1975 and was previously vice president of Corporate Responsibility.

He also served as vice president of Health, Environment and Safety from September 2000 until 2005. Two years earlier, in September 1998, he was appointed vice president of Human Resources and Environment.

In 1994, Mr. Sullenbarger was appointed group counsel-Worldwide Exploration & Production in Houston. In 1991, after serving in three senior counsel positions in Houston, he was appointed general attorney-Refining, Marketing, Supply & Transportation in Findlay. After joining Marathon, he held a number of positions in the law organization in Findlay, Ohio, London and Houston.

Mr. Sullenbarger was born in Greenville, Ohio, in 1951. He earned an undergraduate degree in political science from Bowling Green State University, Ohio in 1973 and a law degree from Ohio Northern University in 1976. In 2000, he attended the Stanford Executive Program.

He is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of Ohio and Texas. Mr. Sullenbarger served as Chair of the Executive Committee of the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA) from 2006 to 2008. He is currently a member of The Nature Conservancy Development Board, and Chair & Secretary of the Executive Committee for the Houston Clean City Commission (Keep Houston Beautiful).
