Raising Awareness

Education and communication are key components of Marathon’s Ethics Program. Ongoing efforts to raise the awareness of ethics and integrity enable employees to understand the Company’s expectations regarding ethical behavior. Recent highlights for Marathon’s Business Integrity Program include:

  • In 2007, employees completed more than 11,500 training sessions, which addressed employee questions and concerns of reporting unethical behavior without fear of retaliation.
  • Marathon revised its Code of Business Conduct in 2006 to strengthen management's responsibility for ethical and legal behavior, address the importance of human rights, and expand privacy issues surrounding confidential information about employees and customers. The updated Code was distributed to more than 11,200 Upstream, Downstream and Speedway SuperAmerica employees and 600 employees outside the U.S.
  • In 2006, the Business Integrity Office added an employee whose primary responsibility is to oversee the ethics program for international and Upstream employees.
