Environment and Culture

QuoteStyle-AboutUs-MartinStuart_v3

Marathon is committed to fostering an environment of inclusion and mutual respect that promotes individual development and supports a high performance team culture.

Diversity and Inclusion Educational Programs

Required and optional training for employees and managers are conducted throughout the Company. Topics including leading a global workforce, diversity awareness and skills, diversity dimensions (age, gender, physical abilities, sexual orientation, etc.) and developing high-performance teams are the primary focus.

Mentoring Programs

Our global mentoring programs assist in employee recruitment and retention, employee professional development and motivation, and leadership development. The programs may vary by location or within a specific department to meet employee needs. Mentoring programs are also available for expatriate employees and spouses while working abroad.

Diversity Teams

Marathon has diversity teams representing business units and locations in the U.S., United Kingdom and Norway. Diversity teams assist the Diversity Office with implementing our global diversity strategy by engaging employees and leadership at local and organizational levels to address barriers to full inclusion.

Cultural Awareness Programs

Marathon recognizes the value a culturally competent workforce adds to our business. Programs focus on increasing individual, Company and global cultural awareness and skills.

  • History and Heritage Months – Marathon observes the designated Black History Month, International Women’s Day & History Month, Asian/Pacific Islander Heritage, Hispanic Heritage and American Indian & Alaskan Native Heritage Month.
  • Diversity and Inclusion Programs – Throughout Marathon, web- and location-based activities are held to increase employee awareness and understanding of diversity and drive an inclusive environment. Major communications and events are held during the annual recognition of Diversity & Inclusion month during October.
  • Global Skills – Educational opportunities are provided for U.S. and non-U.S. employees to increase their awareness and build the skills needed to work in a multicultural environment. All employees and select business partners can use an internal web-based tool that provides business protocol and other cultural information on over 100 countries.
