Stavanger is headquarters for Marathon's offshore assets on the Norwegian Continental Shelf including the Alvheim development.

The city is located on a peninsula on the southwest coast of Norway. It is the center of the third largest metropolitan area in the country with a city population of more than 115,000. When oil was first discovered in the North Sea, Stavanger was chosen to be the on-shore center for the oil industry on the Norwegian sector.
