Angola

Marathon has interests in two blocks offshore Angola, Block 31 and Block 32. The Company is encouraged by its successes in this exploration trend and sees Angola as a future core area with significant production potential. 

Block 31
On Block 31, Marathon has announced 16 successful exploration wells since late 2001. Discoveries include Plutao, Saturno, Marté, Venus, Palas, Ceres, Juno, Astraea, Hebe, Urano, Terra, Titania, Miranda, Cordelia, Portia and one unnamed discovery.

Marathon has a 10 percent working interest in Block 31. The Company's partners in the block are BP Exploration Angola (26.67 percent and operator), Esso Exploration and Production Angola (25 percent), Sonangol (20 percent), Statoil Angola A.S. (13.33 percent) and Total Exploration and Production Angola (5 percent).

Block 32
On Block 32, Marathon has announced 11 successful exploration wells: Gindungo, Canela, Gengibre, Mostarda, Salsa, Manjericao, Caril, Louro, Cominhos, Colorau and Alho.

Marathon has a 30 percent working interest in Block 32. The remaining interests are held by Total Exploration and Production Angola (30 percent and operator), Sonangol (20 percent), Esso Exploration and Production Angola (15 percent) and Petrogal (5 percent).
