Employees and contractors at our Brae platform add profitable production from the North Sea. Other core regions include the U.S., Canada and Equatorial Guinea.

The Iraqi Kurdistan Region is a new impact exploration entry for Marathon. In October 2010, we acquired a position in four exploration blocks giving us access to approximately 368,000 total net acres (650,000 gross) of world-class, underexplored onshore oil assets.
This is one of the last onshore regions with significant resource potential per prospect, offering the potential to establish oil production in the short- to mid-term.
We have signed production sharing contracts for operatorship and a 100 percent working interest (80 percent ownership) in two open blocks northeast of Erbil - Harir and Safen. The Kurdistan Regional Government holds a fully carried 20 percent interest.
In addition, Marathon was assigned a 20 percent working interest in the Atrush Block and 25 percent working interest in the Sarsang Block north-northwest of Erbil.
We participated in two discoveries during 2011. The Atrush-1 well was drilled to a total depth of approximately 11,000 feet and encountered 400 feet of net pay in the Jurassic zones. The Swara Tika-1 discovery on the Sarsang block was drilled to a total depth of approximately 12,500 feet and encountered 1,500 feet of gross oil column.
Marathon’s commitment to the community is deeply rooted in our core values. Our employee-run Books for Bioko program collects supplies for schools in Equatorial Guinea.
