Employees and contractors at our Brae platform add profitable production from the North Sea. Other core regions include the U.S., Canada and Equatorial Guinea.

Employees in our U.K. operations revamped areas in the Gilcomstoun Primary School in Aberdeen, Scotland. After working with the school's head teacher to determine the scope of work, employees raised money for the project by planning bake and music CD sales and a raffle. Marathon matched the funds raised.
Playground work included painting railings and a mural wall and arranging a contractor to erect a fence for the nursery. Employees also repainted the front door and internal stairways.
Marathon also contributed £45,000 (approximately $70,000) to educational outreach programs at the new Aberdeen University Library and Aberdeen Maritime Museum.
The university library holds some of Scotland's most important cultural and scholarly treasures, such as rare books and manuscripts dating back to the third century B.C. Marathon's donation will help the university open up the library as much as possible to schools and the community with new exhibition space and interactive education suites.
The maritime museum is using Marathon's donation for the major redevelopment of energy exploration galleries. The museum hopes to attract more than 100,000 visitors annually to explore the industry's history.
The offshore committees on the Brae Bravo and East Brae platforms work to reduce the environmental impact of our operations and to improve Marathon's environmental performance offshore.
In particular, the committees established key performance indicators for waste management to measure the percentage of waste sent to landfill and recycled.
To maximize the amount of recycled waste, the committees encourage the wider workforce to segregate their waste correctly. Hand dryers were introduced on Brae Bravo and dishwashers to reduce the use of consumables such as paper towels and plastic cups. Quarantine bins were installed for offshore personnel when they are unsure of the correct disposal route.
To help spread their message, the committees launched an eco art competition to encourage children to submit drawings, paintings or even inventions based on the theme of the environment. The artwork will be displayed on the walls of the Brae platforms and onshore offices.
Marathon's five-year goal is to improve energy efficiency 5 percent by 2015. Our energy efficiency improvements are achieved through projects that reduce energy consumption, flaring, venting and process losses.
Several projects extended the life of and reduced energy use on platforms in our U.K. Brae asset. We modified export compressors to recycle seal gas, reducing flared gas. We improved test separator efficiency when offloading wells and installed new power generation sets using the latest technology. These projects saved a total of 857 billion Btus of energy in 2010 and will contribute approximately 805 billion Btus in energy savings in 2011.
Marathon’s commitment to the community is deeply rooted in our core values. Our employee-run Books for Bioko program collects supplies for schools in Equatorial Guinea.
