David E. Roberts, Jr.David E. Roberts Jr.

David E. Roberts Jr., is executive vice president and chief operating officer of Marathon Oil Corporation. He also serves as a member of the Company's executive committee.

Mr. Roberts was previously the executive vice president in charge of Marathon's worldwide Upstream operations, a position he held from 2008. Roberts joined Marathon in 2006 as senior vice president of business development.

He joined Marathon from BG Group, where he served in that company's Reading (U.K.) headquarters as executive vice president and managing director with responsibility for Asia and the Middle East.

Prior to joining BG, he served as advisor to the vice chairman of Chevron Corporation from 2001 to 2003.

Mr. Roberts' career in the industry began at Texaco, leading to a variety of engineering and operations management positions, including as business unit leader of the giant Kern River (California) field. Immediately prior to the Texaco and Chevron merger, he was the director of strategy for Texaco's global upstream business.

Mr. Roberts is a 1983 graduate of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in mineral engineering (petroleum option). He serves on the University's College of Engineering Leadership Board.

Mr. Roberts serves on the board of directors of Flowserve Corporation, a global leader in the manufacture and aftermarket services of flow control products and is an active volunteer in Houston serving on the boards of the local affiliate of the American Heart Association, the nationally recognized Alley Theatre and The Arbor School, focused on serving special needs children. He has previously served on the national board of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. Mr. Roberts also has a personal focus as an industry leader on the critical challenge of achieving greater energy security for the world’s energy consumers and serves on the boards of both the Independent Producers Association of America (IPAA) and the American Exploration and Production Council (AXPC).
