Michael K. StewartMichael K. Stewart is vice president, Finance and Accounting, controller and treasurer of Marathon Oil Corporation. He joined Marathon in 1985 and was elected to his current position in May 2006.
In July 2005, Mr. Stewart was appointed controller of Marathon with responsibility for various accounting functions including those related to international and domestic business units, subsidiaries and joint ventures.
Beginning in 2002, Mr. Stewart served as director of internal audit for the Company worldwide, where he directed the internal audit activities. In 2001, he held the position of manager of internal reporting and external analysis.
A year earlier, Mr. Stewart was named director of corporate staff for USX, the former holding company for Marathon Oil Company. He was promoted to audit manager at US Steel Corporation in 1998. Prior to this, he held various management and professional positions in the Tax department, serving the Company in Findlay, Ohio, Houston and London.
Mr. Stewart began his career in 1979 as an internal auditor for Exxon Mobil Corporation in Houston and later was a tax specialist with KPMG.
He is a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and the University of Houston, Texas, where he earned a master’s degree in business administration. Mr. Stewart is a certified public accountant.
