ROBERT L. SOVINERobert L. Sovine is vice president of Human Resources at Marathon Oil Corporation. He was appointed to his current position in June 2010. Mr. Sovine is responsible for human resource capital, with approximately 3,000 worldwide employees. He previously served as Upstream Human Resources manager from 2003 until May 2010.
Mr. Sovine joined Marathon in 1980 as a Human Resources representative in Findlay, Ohio, and subsequently held a number of Human Resource positions of increasing responsibility in the Findlay office and at the Company's refineries in Robinson, Illinois; Texas City, Texas; and Catlettsburg, Kentucky. He transferred to Houston in 2001 as manager of Human Resources - Compensation and Organizational Development.
Mr. Sovine earned a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in industrial and labor relations from West Virginia University.
He currently serves as an adjunct professor of human resources in the MBA program at Houston Baptist University, and as a volunteer mediator for the Harris County (Texas) Dispute Resolution Center. He is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management.
