Employees and contractors at our Brae platform add profitable production from the North Sea. Other core regions include the U.S., Canada and Equatorial Guinea.

Marathon recognizes the importance of emergency preparedness to protect employees, communities and the environment. Emergency incidents that are not properly responded to, managed and resolved can be costly to our communities, shareholders and to Marathon.
Marathon maintains emergency response plans and a three-tiered response structure. Our membership in several Oil Spill Response Organizations (OSROs) worldwide supports our internal capabilities.
Our Corporate Emergency Response Team (CERT) was established in 1990. CERT assures that Marathon’s total corporate resources, support and response management are available to communicate, respond to and manage major emergencies that may occur at any Company location.
CERT provides a framework and organizational structure to manage large incidents through training, resourcing and response management skills developed inside the Company. We have activated CERT to respond to earthquakes, hurricanes, pandemics, oil spills and security incidents.
CERT is made up of Marathon employees who are highly trained in their roles and responsibilities in the Incident Command System (ICS), a globally recognized organization management structure. CERT uses ICS to obtain command and control of emergency response events.
Marathon maintains Business Continuity Plans (BCP) for all support functions to prevent severe disruption of our critical business operations for extended periods. BCPs are critical tools that have helped us respond to hurricanes, regional flooding and pandemic illness. To improve our BCPs, they are audited and drilled periodically.
Following the Deepwater Horizon incident in 2010, Marathon began taking steps to further strengthen our plans and processes for preventing and responding to large-scale events. We focused on our deepwater capabilities in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and Europe.
Marathon’s commitment to the community is deeply rooted in our core values. Our employee-run Books for Bioko program collects supplies for schools in Equatorial Guinea.
