CSR Policy
Marathon has long-established core values associated with health and safety, environmental stewardship, honesty and integrity, corporate citizenship and a high performance team.
Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Policy is a continuing commitment to these core values. Our commitment to CSR means being accountable for our actions to a broad range of stakeholders who have a stake in how we conduct business. Stakeholders include investors, employees, customers, suppliers, communities, business partners, host governments, regulatory authorities and others.
We put the nine elements of our CSR Policy into practice every day to manage our business in a way that promotes sustainable social, environmental and economic benefits for all stakeholders wherever Marathon operates.
The nine CSR elements are:
- Community Development: Invest in sustainable programs to improve the quality of life in communities in which we live and operate.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Establish relationships with communities, groups and organizations to solicit their input and involvement on critical issues.
- Capacity Building: Establish mechanisms that allow communities or governments to develop and sustain themselves through their own human capital.
- Transparency: Promote openness in all business dealings, especially records and revenue flow, through cooperation and dialogue among producing countries and companies.
- Rule of Law: Respect local laws and promote the principles of justice, fairness and equality wherever we operate.
- Education and Training: Provide programs and learning opportunities to develop skilled, competitive workforces.
- Environmental Stewardship: Operate in a safe and environmentally responsible manner and reduce the impact of operations on the environment.
- Human Rights: Respect and protect fundamental human and worker rights in accordance with the U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
- CSR Performance Reporting: Document social responsibility efforts and report on non-financial performance regularly as a means of measuring progress and advancing stakeholder dialogue.
Marathon’s commitment to the community is deeply rooted in our core values. Our employee-run Books for Bioko program collects supplies for schools in Equatorial Guinea.
