Rule of Law
Marathon respects local laws and promotes the principles of justice, fairness and equality wherever we operate. Marathon encourages, where appropriate, local authorities to observe rule of law, and advocates, to the extent practical, against arbitrary decisions. Examples of 'Rule of Law' activities includes:
- International Bar Association conferences: Marathon has sponsored law conferences in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, expressly for building an increased understanding of the international legal framework governing business operations. The conferences attracted representatives of the EG Ministry of Mining and Energy and local bar association members.
- Code of Business Conduct: Marathon's long held value for business integrity is fundamental to the 'Rule of Law' element. In addition to the Company's Code of Business Conduct, Marathon provides annual training to employees on the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and similar legislation from other countries.
Marathon’s commitment to the community is deeply rooted in our core values. Our employee-run Books for Bioko program collects supplies for schools in Equatorial Guinea.
