Employees and contractors at our Brae platform add profitable production from the North Sea. Other core regions include the U.S., Canada and Equatorial Guinea.

Marathon tracks other operational air emissions. We are required to report the following criteria pollutants:
Criteria pollutant emissions are reported one year in arrears due to regulatory reporting deadlines. Downstream criteria pollutant emissions decreased 15 percent between 2004 and 2008. Reductions mainly are due to installation of NOx and SOx controls at Marathon's seven refineries in compliance with a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Consent Decree. Most Consent Decree requirements have been fully implemented. Criteria pollutant emissions should remain stable or increase slightly as new refinery projects come on line.
Upstream emissions increased by 5 percent from 2005-2008, with the addition of Norway operations in 2008 and a change in calculation methodology for Equatorial Guinea.
Marathon’s commitment to the community is deeply rooted in our core values. Our employee-run Books for Bioko program collects supplies for schools in Equatorial Guinea.
