WORKFORCE
Marathon seeks to create sustainable value through a safe and healthy workplace, a high performance team culture and a collaborative environment where individuals perform to their fullest professional potential.
Where We Are
- Upstream and Downstream are in the third quartiles in their respective safety comparator groups, based on their individual 2010 Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR). Speedway improved its TRIR for the fourth consecutive year.*
- Implementing our ongoing Process Safety Management (PSM) Improvement Plan, tracking process safety events (PSEs) and near misses, monitoring leading and lagging indicators, and using incident investigations to focus improvements and corrective actions aimed at reducing risks.
- Strengthening recruiting by maintaining and developing relationships with key educational and professional organizations.
- Focusing on employee training and development processes.
Where We Want to Be
- Striving for continuous improvement to achieve and maintain top quartile safety performance, including process safety management, within the industry.
- Recruiting, hiring and promoting the most qualified candidates while diversifying the workforce and ensuring training and development opportunities are available to further enhance diversity composition of Marathon's workforce in professional and managerial positions.
*Safety performance reporting to OGP, API and LPIPA/LPN (Loss Prevention Industry Professional Association and Loss Prevention Network) for Upstream, Downstream and Speedway, respectively, is voluntary. Therefore, the number of companies choosing to report performance varies from year to year. Marathon's position partially depends on the number of companies choosing to report safety performance, the safety performance of all companies in the comparator group, and consistent participation by comparator group members.
What We Are Doing to Get There
Marathon’s commitment to the community is deeply rooted in our core values. Our employee-run Books for Bioko program collects supplies for schools in Equatorial Guinea.
