Employees and contractors at our Brae platform add profitable production from the North Sea. Other core regions include the U.S., Canada and Equatorial Guinea.

To further promote worksite-based safety and health, all Marathon refineries are working toward OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) certification. In the VPP, management, labor and OSHA establish cooperative relationships at workplaces that have implemented a comprehensive safety and health management system. Approval into VPP is OSHA's official recognition of the outstanding efforts of employers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational safety and health.
VPP sets performance-based criteria for a managed safety and health system, invites sites to apply, and then assesses applicants against these criteria. OSHA's verification includes an application review and a rigorous onsite evaluation by a team of OSHA safety and health experts.
At year-end 2010, the following Marathon locations were certified as federal or state OSHA VPP sites:
The Catlettsburg and Canton refineries have submitted applications for VPP certification and are awaiting audits. The Texas City refinery completed its audit in March 2011 and is awaiting results from OSHA.
With Marathon's support, nine resident contractors at three refineries also gained certification. They include the first contractor to qualify for Michigan OSHA VPP Rising STAR status and the first resident contractor to be VPP Star certified in the State of Illinois.
Marathon’s commitment to the community is deeply rooted in our core values. Our employee-run Books for Bioko program collects supplies for schools in Equatorial Guinea.
