Education
Marathon supports education at all grade levels, with an emphasis on increasing interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields of study in primary and secondary school students.
Many Marathon locations fund curriculum enhancements, Junior Achievement and similar programs. Through school partnerships, employees mentor and tutor children to help them improve academic performance and test scores.
Marathon funds approximately $4.5 million annually on educational outreach programs, including scholarships to universities.
Offshore Energy Center
The Offshore Energy Center (OEC), established in 1988, is dedicated to expanding the awareness of the vast energy resources available beneath the world's oceans. OEC chronicles the unique heritage and technological accomplishments of an industry that discovers, produces and delivers these resources to mankind in a safe and environmentally responsible way.
This mission is being accomplished through the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig Museum in Galveston, education outreach programs and the Hall of Fame.
