Marathon’s CSR Performance Data

In this table, some totals may not equal the sum of their components and separate calculation of other data may be affected due to independent rounding. The metrics below are for operations under direct Marathon management and operational control. GHG emissions are estimated using industry guidelines (API's Compendium of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Methodologies for the Oil and Gas Industry and the API, IPIECA and OGP Petroleum Industry Guidelines for Reporting Greenhouse Gas Emissions). Except as noted, metrics in this table represent global, worldwide performance.

a. GHG carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions are based on carbon dioxide,
methane, nitrous oxide; Downstream emissions also include sulfur hexafluoride.
Reflects emissions from Marathon-operated facilities; non-operated interests are
    not included.
b. Some data updated due to improved methodologies, corrected calculation errors,
    or other reporting revisions.
c. Criteria pollutant data reported one year in arrears. 2008 VOC data adjusted to
include emissions not previously reported from Upstream International Production
    Operations (IPO).
2009 data include Downstream and Upstream IPO only; North America Production
Operations 2009 data not available because of an ongoing switch to a new
database that will increase the accuracy and completeness of emissions
    calculations.
d. Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) data include air, water and land releases and
offsite disposal, reported in accordance with U.S. EPA requirements.
Data reported one year in arrears.

e. 2009 and 2010 spill data reflect a revised reportable oil spill definition to
include all oil spills equal to or greater than 1 barrel and all reportable oil
    spills regardless of size.
Oil spills include any liquid hydrocarbon release, including crude oil, natural
    gas condensates and refined products.
f. Workforce statistics based on year-end data.
g. U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission statistics.
h. Minority classification includes African-American, Hispanic, Asian Pacific
    Islander and American Indian/Alaskan Native.
