About our E.G. business
equatorial guinea

With a regional office in Malabo, on Bioko Island, we’ve been active in E.G. since 2002. Marathon Oil operates the offshore Alba field, and we have equity interests in the Alba liquefied petroleum gas plant, Atlantic Methanol Production Co., and a liquefied natural gas production facility. Over the years, we’ve initiated and participated in social responsibility initiatives addressing critical health, social, education and other issues in E.G., including:
  • Bioko Island Malaria Control Project (BIMCP), an innovative and successful approach to eradicating malaria
  • Education, training and development of Equatoguineans to work in our facilities
  • Efforts to improve maternal and infant health
  • Support for E.G.’s participation in the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)

2Q 2019

Excluding Kurdistan and U.K operations, second quarter international production averaged 91,000 net boed with unit production costs of $2.21 per boe. As of July 1, the Company's international operations are limited to the integrated business in Equatorial Guinea.

During the second quarter, E.G. production returned to normal levels after successful completion of the planned triennial turnaround during first quarter 2019.

Earlier this year, we signed a definitive agreement to process third-party Alen Unit gas through existing infrastructure located in Punta Europa, E.G., a significant step toward solidifying Punta Europa as a cornerstone component of the E.G. Gas Mega Hub for the potential development of local and regional natural gas. First gas sales from the Alen Unit is expected in 2021, and will utilize available processing capacity not required by the Alba Field.
