Mr. Wells joined Marathon Oil's board of directors in 2019.

He retired in 2015 from Fidelity Exploration & Production Company, an oil and natural gas production company. Mr. Wells served as president and CEO of Fidelity since 2011, and as vice chairman and board member of MDU Resources, the parent company of Fidelity, since 2013. He previously served on the board of Newfield Exploration Company from 2015 - 2019.

Prior to joining Fidelity, Wells spent 32 years with Amoco and BP. He held positions including senior vice president of BP America, general manager of Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations, and vice president of BP America with responsibility over the Rockies and the Gulf of Mexico.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Queen's University.
