In January 2022, Diane Bissell took over as the fourth teacher for a group of nine third graders. Their grade equivalents when they moved to third grade ranged from 1.5 to 3.3. Their last testing scores showed grade equivalents of 2.2 to 5.7. Several students have recently been diagnosed with dyslexia and some students were facing other challenges. There are just way too many issues for a small group of very wonderful kids. She began the year by purchasing books on all levels and working in small groups.

They have worked on oral reading, decoding, recalling details and have finally reached the point that with help, most of them can make inferences about their reading. They also work in small groups for many math objectives. She teaches the entire class and then breaks the students into groups based on their understanding of the concepts. She uses math practice information from second through fourth grade.
