Over the past school year, science resources/curriculum delivery was delayed. Therefore, the students were exposed to continual inquiry-based, hands-on learning projects that aligned to the Oklahoma Academic Standards. Students worked in the “field,” conducted engineering projects and designed their own science experiments to solve problems. To bring science to life and provide a service to the community, a small grant was secured to purchase a greenhouse and construct raised beds. Through this grant, the plan is for students to learn a life-long skill of growing their own food, but also to provide the district cafeteria and the local senior citizen center with vegetables. The grant funds were only able to purchase half of the request and due to extreme weather conditions, the greenhouse that was erected was destroyed by high winds. However, students were able to think outside the box and begin the learning process of gardening and applying life science skills along the way.
