Marathon Oil's Processing Power

July, 2018 — Houston, Texas

Darren Barbee of Hart Energy's Oil & Gas Investor magazine begins the cover story in the July issue with a quote from the movie "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" -- Earth's life forms "are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea." He then writes about how MRO is using technology from the gaming industry to save time and work more efficiently.

Looking for breakthrough technologies

Marathon Oil’s use of technology in mature fields such as the Eagle Ford Shale and the Bakken “was certainly a breakthrough for us,” and the company is now applying innovations to other operating areas, said Bruce McCullough, VP of Technology and Innovation and CIO.

“We’ve been able to really resurrect a legacy asset. What we’ve done is we’ve taken all our knowledge of the assets’ geology and the physics, and we’ve been applying these new technologies, these new ways to model fracks, new ways to model reservoirs. It’s yielding some pretty significant benefits.”
