We’re committed to strengthening relationships with our key stakeholders, and believe that our communities, our employees and our company benefit from our collective efforts to build a competitive workforce, enhance health and wellbeing, and protect the environment. We partner with local organizations to develop and support projects that are meaningful to our communities where we work.
We have a track record of investing in education from kindergarten through college to strengthen communities and build the future workforce. We support science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum enhancements, literacy, teacher training and development, programs aimed at meeting community social needs that impact educational outcomes, and college scholarships. Our goals are to stimulate interest in STEM fields and increase the number of students who finish high school and continue their education at a two- or four-year college. We hope pursuing STEM fields leads some of these students to work for Marathon Oil and be industry leaders in the future.
We’ve developed an Integrated Education Funding Model to ensure our investments drive meaningful change in academic performance, graduation rates and interest in STEM fields. The model helps us identify promising programs and measure effectiveness. It also guides stakeholder engagement to address outside factors that can impact educational outcomes, such as parental support and underlying social issues.
Health & Human Services
Our health and human services partnerships are focused on educating our employees and communities about the major causes of death in the U.S. and other western operating areas: heart disease, stroke and cancer. We have an ongoing partnership with the American Heart Association (AHA) to help build healthier lives free from cardiovascular disease and stroke, which helps ensure a healthy workforce.
Environment & Conservation
We seek out opportunities to protect and conserve natural resources, habitats and environments through social investment and philanthropic giving. We've partnered with Trees for Houston on a tree farm and education center; we're the presenting sponsor of the Energy Conservation Club at the Houston Museum of Natural Science to engage children in energy conservation; and, we support a distance learning program for schoolchildren to visit the Houston Zoo remotely from their classrooms.
